...You know what?
I want icon lovin' too. How about it, everyone, help a mouse out? I'm kind of bored with this me-head icon (though other me-head icons are okay) and the other two are kind of less than stellar, just being cropped pictures. I have one replacement icon in the Geminiman one Luna made me, which leaves room for two more (stupid icon limits). Only having a few friends on here as I do, that should be about as many as I'll get in reply to this post, so it all works out. But if I do end up getting more, rest assured that if I don't use yours right away I will eventually.

Also, since I force my music on fenrisulfr, zie will likely tear this list apart. Moreso than I did zirs anyway, especially since several will probably match up.

I think the April Fool's jokes on websites are stupid. When they're subtle, people believe them and it's really annoying, such as a couple years ago, when a site claimed that both Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and a Guilty Gear anime were coming; MvC3 had a couple really good fake screenshots, and GG had shots of the anime cutscenes in GGXX. When they're ridiculous, it defeats the purpose. This year, the Magic: the Gathering website is full of false news, and its message board is making everyone's posts look like they were made by Mr. T, changing "the" to "da" and "I" to "Mr. T," among several other things. GameFAQs has Pikachu popping up on their logo in the corner, and the main page's big logo flashes an N-Gage logo very briefly, and other dumb shit. Come on, does anyone in the real world do anything on this day? Not that I know of; it's relegated to TV shows and websites. Why is that? Because it's not funny and if you're going to make stupid jokes, don't do it on the one day out of three hundred sixty-five that no one will fall for it or not be expecting it. |

You know, there's a lot of people on the internet and elsewhere who claim that "graphics don't matter, only gameplay does" and mention this every time someone is talking about how nice a game looks. "Wow, Final Fantasy X looks awesome, especially the cinemas." "Bah, who cares? The gameplay is all that matters, and it's not exactly like the other FFs so it sucks." I can honestly say that FFX is my favorite FF of the series, and I've played them ALL. Yes, I'm sure a great many FF fans would stare in shock after reading that. If, you know, anyone read this outside fo a select few. It's not the graphics - well, not just the graphics, but I like most of the characters (Lulu owns, Wakka's cool and I think Rikku's the most tolerable "cheerful one" ever to be in an RPG) and the atmosphere of the game; how it's not the same old medieval stuff (can we say FFIX?) yet nor is it some cliche futuristic crap with swords and magic thrown in(Number seven, I'm looking at you).
But that's not the point. The point is that when anyone goes out of their way to say how nice a game looks, someone else pops out of the nearest drainpipe and says "Only gameplay matters!" Gee, I bet the people who did the graphics LOVE to know that a lot of people don't give two pigeonshits if the main character is an awesome-looking swordsman with a hell of a sword or some circle with eyes and what seems to be a body. Now, do I enjoy games with graphics that aren't that great by modern standards? Hell yes. I love every Sonic game except maybe 3D Blast, and the majority of those are on the 16-bit Genesis. Games don't HAVE to look good to be good, but don't act like they have to look crappy, either. For me, graphics can greatly improve the experience a game provides. Can you imagine FFX in old-school FF 2D? I can't. Sonic Adventure 2 as a side-scroller would make a lot of the extra shit they put in, particularly the treasure hunts and probably the shooting misions, a bit... stupid (though I know of plenty of people who would be glad to be rid of those things).
Two dimensional games are great. My favorite game of all time is a 2D game, as are several of my other favorites. But I have favorites that are 3D too, and that doesn't make me some graphics whore who started gaming when the PS2 came around and who only cares what the game looks like. Yet that's what accusations get thrown around. It's stupid. You go play Adventure and keep that dot away from that freakin' duck if you don't want graphics interfering with your fun. Me, I'll be enjoying myself some Shenmue II. |

Hmm. Been a while since I wrote in here. This whole Iraq thing sucks. Yes, it's for the best; once Hussein is gone, everything will be better, for the rest of the world as well as Iraq. I was going crazy over the whole thing until Saikou calmed me down. I thought all our lives were at risk, and I kept telling myself "We're going to die." Thanks, Saikou, for convincing me otherwise.
On the bright side, I finished SA2. I have to say, the actual ending is quite different than I imagined it would be just from hearing about it. I mean, I thought Shadow just fell to the Earth in silence, or maybe yelling or something. Not calmly speaking (or was he just thinking?) to Maria. Oh, and then there's that little sparkle and "ding." That was a bit corny, I think... but I've little doubt it was so that if he became very liked (and I'd say he has), they can bring him back under the excuse that he used Chaos Control or something. Not that I'd complain; his death was pointless to begin with.
Now if he was killed by Finalhazard itself, it would be different; that would be dramatic, and would likely fuel Sonic's proverbial fire, thus making the last fight that much more intense. Granted, it would screw with the whole "switching back and forth to conserve ring energy" deal, but they could've fixed that somehow, I'm sure... anyway, that's my two cents. Feel free to comment with your own, on either topic. |
